He had forgotten his wife! With his brass spyglass, he hurried to the stern and peered at the receding dock. Sure enough, there was Irma waving her apron. He lowered the spyglass and sighed. Around the horn and back. . .two years without his wife? Or go back and get her and lose this lovely wind?

It was a new hat, and Permelia had decided to show it off by taking some bread to the Nance family down the road. Hap Nance had a camera and was always looking for an attractive photographic subject. She would carry the bread in a picturesque basket of her mother's. . .
